MfS Walking Tour

October 5, 2011adminTraining

Applying the principles set out in Manual for Streets helps to make places more attractive and to function better. A useful and informative way to examine the sort of thing MfS advocates is to go out and see built schemes and see how they perform in every day use. It doesn’t matter if they were built before or after MfS was published; any scheme can tell you something useful and can be related back to MfS principles.

We were invited to take members of the BOB-MK design officers group on a walking tour of a recently built development in Oxford, where we looked at the fundamental layout of the street, the way the parking was arranged, the way buildings and private space were configured and for evidence of how people chose to use the spaces.
