Strategic Urban Design Pilot (Sept 09)
North Northants Joint Planning Unit is aiming high with its revised Joint Core Spatial Strategy; putting placemaking at its heart. The adopted Joint Core Spatial Strategy has been widely recognised and promoted as good practice. It was the first joint Core Strategy in the UK and won the regional RTPI award for planning achievement. The NNJPU is determined that the replacement JCSS will raise the bar still further and, in order to achieve this, is working with the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) and Transform Places (the architecture centre for Milton Keynes and the South Midlands) to embed the ‘place shaping’ principles of strategic urban design into the plan making process.
This exciting approach will serve as the model for the rest of the sub-region and beyond, paving the way for a more place based approach to planning policy and ensuring that the design agenda is at the very top of the priorities list.
